A General ticket does not carry a seat. It is bought at the station counter or through the UTS app, is valid for a set number of hours, and lets you board the unreserved coaches of any train of that category on the route. There is no reservation, no chart and no PNR in the reserved sense.
Travelling in a reserved coach on a General ticket is ticketless travel for the purposes of the penalty rules, and the difference in fare plus the penalty is charged on board.
