The Foreign Tourist quota is a small allotment on many long-distance trains for passengers travelling on a foreign passport. It keeps a 365-day advance reservation period, far longer than the general 60 days, and can be booked online through IRCTC with a passport number or at the International Tourist Bureaux at major stations.
The berths are released to general passengers if unsold close to departure. NRIs holding a foreign passport are eligible; Indian passport holders living abroad are not.
