Chart — Reservation chart

The list of who has which berth. The first chart, prepared hours before departure, is when waitlists stop moving and berths are allotted.

The reservation chart is prepared in two passes. The first chart, now at least 10 hours before departure and the previous evening for early-morning trains, allots coaches and berths to confirmed passengers, clears what waitlist it can, and drops fully waitlisted e-tickets. The final chart, about 30 minutes before departure, adds current bookings made in between.

Everything about a ticket freezes at the first chart: online cancellation closes, the status you have is the status you travel on, and anything you want back after that goes through a TDR.
